Altrusa International is an association of professional men and women who volunteer their expertise and energies in projects that are dedicated to better our communities.

Dr. Alfred Durham saw a need for women's civic organizations during WWI.  He met Mamie L Bass and she spearheaded the first convention in Indianapolis in June of 1918.  She worked diligently to make her vision a reality.\

Altrusa became International in 1935.  The first international club was in Mexico.  We've expanded since then to 14 districts world wide along with 12 clubs at large.

In 1966 ASTRA was established to encourage younger women between 13-21.

Many changes have taken place since 1918 and more will be coming in 2011 with the rebranding we will be undergoing this year.
