Up

Altrusa of Evansville, IN spent MADD at Hillcrest Youth Home that currently has 15 court appointed residents ages 13-17.  Six U of  E
students joined us as mentors and helpers as the youth choose and created their own fleece blankets; made their own ice cream in a bag to go with the pizza we provided and worked on a "play it forward" service project for the Boys and Girls Club. Fourty small paper bags were decorated and filled with candy and halloween trinkets and will  be used for prizes at the annual Club Carnival.

Highlights of the day were Altrusaa' own certified clown Sweetpea who entertained and talked to the residents and when the youth were allowed to pick a book of their own and received a tote with puzzle books, journal, batteries, some school supplies and Halloween candy and trinkets.

Staff feel the interaction with adults, receiving fleece throws and a book that belongs to each resident and participating in a project to help others are very valuable for their children.

Besides the 15 residents, we leave supplies for the next 5 children assigned to Hillcrest and will have impact on the 200+ children at the Boys and Girls Club.

A work day was held at a previous meeting and 15 members worked on preparation of fleece, stamped books and filled totes.

A total of 29 people participated with 110 cumulative hours
